Thanks for reading our Scripture for Emergent this week - Colossians 3:16-17. I'd like to hear what you notice here and any questions or thoughts you have about these two verses.

Last week on the blog our two posts were good, but disappointing in that there were so few that posted. So I invite you to share your thoughts, even if you may not think they are valuable.

This passage is short and WOW does it pack punch. Would make a great congregational statement some month -- it's such a challenge to living as we should live, isn't it?

16Let the words of Christ, in all their richness, live in your hearts and make you wise. Use his words to teach and counsel each other.

Isn't that amazing? The richness of what Christ says to us, living and growing in us, making us wise, urging us to pass them on to teach and counsel each other.

I once memorized this and the word "dwell" was used instead of "live". I like the sound of dwell. It sounds more moved in, more permanent, like taking up residence, not just being alive in me when I think about them, but LIVING there day by day by day,

    More later I hope.

I guess this sort of answers the question, of what does living like a christian look like. On Sunday Pastor Tom was talking about how the lives of christians and how they behave is not that much different than the behaviors of non christians. Sometimes I wonder how to make the sermons apply to my life and I don't always feel connected in day to day life. I think the scripture for this week gives me a more concrete example of how to behave. If I think about what would be a kind way of saying something or a nicer way of going about interacting with someone, I can act in a way that would be more in line with what would please God. I just pray for patience and acceptance and forgiveness for things and people that upset me. That way I try not be angry about little things that don't really matter in the long run anyway.

I totally agree qith Paul this scripture does pack a porweful punch. It's so simple, yet so meaningful. It speaks a lot with few words.

It's just a nice reminder that we has christians are human, and we have human tendencies, but in order to show others that we have something "different" (if that sounds odd, sorry) we must try harder to say and do things that show others our hearts and who lies within them. I strongly feel that if you are not careful, whatever emotion you are feeling will become apparent to others, but if you constantly remind yourself that God is more powerful than all of them, and he is who really dwells (great word Paula!) in your heart, you can't help but to let him pour out of you.

"Let the words of Christ, in all their richness, live in your hearts and make you wise" I love those words. They remind me of how my life is to be...how I need to be living...who I really need to be focused on. How can anyone including myself expect to be complete if we are not reading the words of Christ. I know that personally I still struggle at reading my Bible, partly because I am lazy, partly because I just forget (not a habit) and then also because I forget the importance in it. I am always praying to God that I would become closer to Him, that I would come to know Him more completly and yet I am not reading the wonderful letters He has written to me. This passage of scripture just really spoke to me tonight! I truly want to grow closer to God, I want to have a closer relationship with Him and the only way I can do that is to read more about Him and to talk with Him more frequently. This passage reminds me that if I want others to see Jesus through me, through my words, my actions then I need to be more devoted to Jesus myself and that includes reading his Word and just living the life He wants me to live.
